One of the things I found while cleaning out Mom's house was a folder full of funny things that my kids have said over the years. They were scribbled on scraps of paper in various shapes and sizes, but they were all written down and they were all in one place. :-)
I had a few good laughs reading through them, and to be honest, I would have completely forgotten most of them if Mom hadn't written them down when I told her about them over the phone. Just proves what a devoted and adoring grandmother she was, even across continents.
A few of the gems:
From February 27, 2007
(Dineo at 19 months old)
I gave Dineo something and said, “What do you say?” So she says, “thank you.” Then she looks at me and waits, then says, “Say 'pleasure,' Mom.”
From July 4, 2008
(Age 3)
I asked Dineo to do something, and she said to me, “I don't understand Afrikaans, Mom!” “Well, that's okay, because I'm speaking English!”
From August 20, 2008
Dineo was wearing socks that had the word “Sport” on them. She took her pink pen and wanted to write on her socks. I told her, “No, we don't write on socks.” Her response? “Well, somebody did!”
From November 30, 2009
Kabelo wanted to bake a cake for Jesus' birthday. Dineo said, “Probably not, because it won't get to heaven in time.”
From March 2, 2010
Caleb coughed and then he cleared his throat and explained, “That wasn't a cough. That was what you do before you read.” Surprised, I asked him, “Who does that?” “Alan.”
Caleb was looking at a cartoon illustration in a book, in which the inside of the mouth was blue and the hands were pink. So I asked Caleb, “What color is your mouth inside?” “Pink.” “How do you know?” “I just know.” “And what color are your hands?” (Looking down, palms up): “Dirty.”

Caleb got new pajamas with a Ferrari logo. Realizing that he didn't know what Ferrari was, I said to him very enthusiastically, “Hey Caleb, this says, 'Ferrari!'” His response: “Why doesn't it say 'Fer Caleb?'”
Date unknown (this one's for Sarah):
Dineo says, “I have poo down my legs, Dad.” “Where did that come from?” “Actually my bum, Dad.”
Thanks, Mom, for recording these memories for us.
